It’s been a while since I have written here which frustrates me for a couple of reasons;
1) I said I would! When we launched our book Self Discipline: A How-to Guide to Stop Procrastination and Achieve your Goals in 10 Steps instead of using my own website, we decided that this would be the online home for all my books and writing.
Since the launch of the book (which has gone A-M-A-Z-I-N-G by the way!) life has just taken over and I didn’t dedicate the time to writing like I wanted to.
2) Writing is therapy for me. When I had my breakdown it was writing that got me through. It has been 3 years since I picked up Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (which I did write about here) and I can’t quite believe the difference in my life.
I’ve been watching Marie’s Netflix series and it’s reminded me of how good I felt when I started her process. Writing ‘sparks joy’ for me personally so it really has to become part of my daily routine again.
Now I do have to forgive myself a bit here. Could I have done more to keep my writing going? Absolutely! Have I had a lot on? Oh my word yes!
We have finally moved from our crummy caravan into our renovated cottage after living in the tin static for 10 months.
The house is not completely finished and we have a lot to do over the next few months but I really want to keep up with my writing.
So in the absence of a desk or office for now, I have a lovely kitchen island which I write from each morning. See my before and after pics above. Bit of a transformation eh?
My 28 Day Writing Challenge
Tomorrow is February 1st. I love a first of the month. It feels new and fresh and exciting. It’s also the date we hope the audio book version of Self Discipline book will go live too. It’s the date I’ve said I will be able to get ‘back on the horse’ and start using my mornings again for writing.
I have to admit with the move and work being a little nuts, my once solid morning routine has been crumbling.
Writing Prompts – The Hemingway Deck
Yesterday I received something fab in the post.
One of my favourite brands, Best Self Co who created the Self Journal (I know I go on about the Self Journal all the time!) well they have created some writing prompt cards.
Inspired by Ernest Hemingway, these cards are a tool for journalling. I intend to pull one out of the pack each day and just go for it when it comes to writing.
Side note: if you’re ever buying anything from Best Self Co use my discount code ‘mindandbody’ for 15% off your order.
Struggling to Write?
I was recently told about a terrifying but awesome app/website called Danger Text. If you’re a writer who gets distracted easily and is desperate to be in ‘flow’ it is brilliant. If you don’t keep writing, within 15 seconds all your text disappears….forever!
You can set a timer for however long you want to write but you just have to keep on typing otherwise every single word you have written disappears before your eyes.
I’ve used this app for work and also for morning journalling. It’s amazing how much you can write and how consistent you can be with a bit of adrenaline fuelled danger added into the mix. I highly recommend it!
Join Me in the Writing Challenge
If you’re a pro journaller, if you’re someone who has never tried it and wants to or if you’re just up for a daily consistent challenge then why not join me?
I’ll be posting all about my daily writing prompts over in our Self Discipline Facebook Group (which launches properly tomorrow, February 1st). Click here to join.
Please feel free to join in and use the same prompts, or your own. Whatever you do, just do it! I can’t wait to see how we all feel in a month’s time after consistently writing.
